What you will experience

Just to clarify, #WellyTech is NOT a conference, it is NOT a networking event, it is NOT a workshop, it is NOT an expo, it is NOT an awards evening. It has elements of all those plus some music, kids STEM education, fun fair activities, show-n-tell, and even an Instagram area.

If anything it's Wellington's Tech Glastonbury

The Village (3:30pm-7pm)

The true heart of any festival is the place people interact. Tech companies bring interactions, games and stalls to engage with the crowd. The catch is - they're not allowed access to power - so they have to get creative!

Over 30 amazing and creative tech organisations will be running the finest 'school fair' stalls taking you back to your youth - get amongst it for the finest of fun, all free and produced by the Wellington tech community.

Supporting Whare Hauora

Every year the event has an organisation that we would like every attendee to support financially and it should come as no surprise to anyone that listens to the Access Granted NZ podcast that this year it is Whare Hauora (https://www.wharehauora.nz/):

Sensors that tell you when your home is making you sick

When you buy your tickets you can donate (thank you!), and all through the event there will be activities focused upon Whare Hauora ensuring we can all get behind this amazing organisation and therefore help those that need their products and services.

Hangout Zones (3:30pm-8pm+)

Our community has lots of great initiatives and social groups that already exist. #WellyTech is a great opportunity for these groups to connect and plenty of space will be given for them to have their own casual meet ups at the event.

There will be food stalls fitting placed around the venue producing non-stop food. On entry into the event everyone will be given a voucher covering the cost of your first drink and a bite to eat - after that it's on you.

We will be operating a cash bars (cash & EFTPOS), but please remember this is not a hard out drinking event AND that we have a strict Code of Conduct. psssst keep an ear open for a post-event venue if that's what you're into.

'Show-n-Tell' Arena (4pm-7pm)

A common request from attendees is for a space for those that have something to show - what have people been up to this year, what cool tools have been created, what amazing games are out there ... this is a chance to go see, maybe even experience, the coolness that the Wellington tech community creates,

OMGTech! For The Kids (4pm-7pm)

We’ve partnered this year with OMGTech! to give your kids (ages 5 -14) an awesome #STEM experience whilst you are busy networking / winning awards / chilling out!

The kids will have a choice between several exciting activities and if you are planning to be there the whole time, they might get to do more than one! In typical agile fashion though, the activities aren't set in stone yet, they have told us that there has been lots of chatter around e-textiles, dancing robots and LOUD musical instruments.

Volunteering

If you are working in the tech space and want to come along to help the #WellyTech kids think about volunteering with OMGTech!

As a bonus, we'll throw in a free #WellyTech 2019 ticket and you don't have to stay at the OMGTech! area the whole time.

Don't worry if you haven't volunteered before, they will be running training before the event.

Sit and get some quiet

We will have areas away from the hullabaloo of the festival for quiet conversations, somewhere to go recharge and for those that want to come but don't want to have to talk. We will ensure that this area is a quiet, reflective space.

The Access Granted stage (3:30pm-8pm)

Like any good festival, there's got to be a main stage featuring live entertainment, key speakers and presentations as well as the place for the main attractions like the Partner Quiz Show, and the 2019 WTAF Awards.

Photograph Time

"Kate" Photograph (6pm)

Wellington tech has a lot of "Kates" of all name types - Kat, Kathryn, Kate, Cate ... and so they get a photograph done. We'll let you know where on the night, follow the Twitter hashtag #WellyTech to get amongst it IF you're a "Kate".

Not a Kate, no worries - find out who's going with your name and we can arrange a time for you all to meet and get your own "[INSERT NAME] #WellyTech photo"

#myWellyTech competition

Take a photo at the event, share it with #myWellyTech* and the best will become a hero photo for the 2020 event AND you'll get a free ticket to everything we do live in 2020.

* We'll check Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and do random Google searches

We totally stole this idea from this year's DevOpsDaysNZ
